barack_obama

The other night, I had a conversation with a friend and I expressed my feelings about our current president. I described how glad and honored I was to have voted for this man. I always believed that it was an impossibility for a black man to become President of the United States of America and if one did just so happen to prove me wrong, that I would never see it before I passed away. Like I told me friend, I'm very pessimistic but when I express my views, I hope that I'm wrong. I've never been so glad to be wrong in my life and if I'm never right again, then that will be all right. From the moment he announced his candidacy, I knew that if we didn't put this one in office, that the probability that another black man of his caliber coming along and have the chance to obtain the highest honor in this country were slim to none.

On January 20th, as I stood in the National Mall taking photos, freezing to near death, I cried, as did many others. I was the happiest I had ever been since I could remember and even while writing this post, I've had to wipe away a few tears. To know that my mother & father grew up and lived through times like these, then to stand in Washington D.C. and watch the 1st Black President of the United States of America be inaugurated was quite an experience. To this day, I have never seen my father shed a single tear, but he admitted that when "Barack Obama" was announced amongst all the cheers of joy, he even shed tears. I cannot fully describe the way it feels to have a beautiful black family occupying the White House. You sit and think, "they're just like me" or "I feel like I know them" because they are truly Black Americans instead of being the blacks that the media (and ourselves) portray what black is.

So, with that, I'm going to leave you with a few things. After the jump, there's a small photo gallery consisting of a few images from Barack's first 167 days in office and a mixtape I put together back in January to commemorate this historic event that I'm so glad that I was apart of.
