Never in my life­time would I have thought that choos­ing to go by my real name instead of my rap alias would gain so much atten­tion (more than the music itself). To the rest of the world, I changed my name but per­son­ally, I just dropped my rap alias. I’ve heard a mil­lion rea­sons why I changed it (some pretty ridicu­lous) so I’m going to set the record straight. For more than 30 years, inno­v­a­tive hip-hop per­form­ers and pro­duc­ers have been re-using por­tions of pre­vi­ously recorded music in new, oth­er­wise orig­i­nal com­po­si­tions. When lawyers and record com­pa­nies got involved, what was once referred to as a "bor­rowed melody" became a "copy­right infringement."
