Millennials are the largest generation in American history. Born between 1978 and 2000, WE are 95 million strong, compared to the 78 million Baby Boomers. WE are politically, socially, and philosophically independent, and are spearheading a period of sweeping change in America and around the world. The new book, Generation We, explains the emerging power of our Millennial Generation, and shows how WE (and older people who think the way WE do) are poised to change our nation and our world for the better.
I am always looking for new talent to share. At Brooklyn’s Amarichi Lounge, “The Come Up” Talent Showcase went down, compliments of Cola Keys and Doperah Styles. The Showcase is a series of fundraising events by the pair to help their old High School get the materials they need to continue the up-keep of resources. Given the fact that the ladies will be celebrating their 10 year High School Reunion soon, they wanted to incorporate the donation into their class reunion, which I think is an awesome idea. Giving back to the community is always important.
The winner Rheel (in the middle with the shades) with the hosts and coordinators.
Judging the contest was yours truly, Lady Blogga alongside DJ Bedtyme and Marvel Dash. We watched various talent acts ranging from Hip-Hop to R-N-B. The winner was a young man by the name of Rheel, who hails from the Bronx. He came with lyrical style, creativity and energy. As a prize, Rheel has a host of radio interviews with various people lined up including Pryme Time radio, Urban Latino radio, The Cook-Up Radio Show and the Lady Blogga herself will be sitting down with Rheel to have a conversation. He and his partner worked the stage with precision. But most importantly, he held the judge’s attention which means he was doing something right.
Aside from new talent, there were featured artists and spoken word performers on deck. J. Sharelle came through with her usual powerful performance and she closed with my personal favorite, “So You Think I’m Pussy”. Uncle Dre dropped a winner as well. Mandee Monae put down some sultry yet powerful R & B, F.C.E. artist G-Swagg came equipped with his smooth but tough flow and Mr. Cash feat. Thrillz dropped jewels. All three came through to do what they do best. After the talent competition and performances, the after party went into full effect with DJ Show N Tell on the 1 and 2’s, spinning all the tunes!!! It was a great night for a great cause and I look forward to the next one!
The Legend and King of Hip Hop, DMC, from the legendary trio Run DMC will be in NYC today. From 4-7 p.m., he will be doing in-store promotion at TekServe 119 West 23rd Street for his contest, DMC Wants To Know. The concept behind the contest is for participants to submit playlists based on the music genre presented for the week. DMC will review and pick his favorite playlist. The winner receives an autographed and engraved iPod by the King himself. Playlists can be submitted and viewed on the site DMC Wants 2 Know.
His new video, "I Got More Songs Than You Do" is available on iTunes and can be previewed there as well. There are a few cameos in the video, I think I peeped Sadat X. Come to TekServe today and have a chat with DMC himself. I'll be there. See you later!!
Last Friday night, a few of you might've seen me tweet about being on a party bus. This was the party. This was the bus.
Academy teams up with Red Bull to throw one of their most creative parties yet. A 40 foot tour bus picking up the coolest people we know and work with around New York City, first stop Crif's deep fried hot dogs, second an intimate concert with Aloe Blacc for TheCouchsessions.com 5th anniversary, and lastly an after party at Deity in Brooklyn featuring DJ Mick Boogie, and a performance by OnCue!

I had the pleasure of seeing Pharoahe perform live last week at the Duck Down Records 15th Anniversary party at BB King in NYC. If you think this record sounds good on your computer speakers, you should hear it on loudspeakers. His new album, W.A.R., drops on Sept. 14th along with Black Milk's Album Of The Year. Both of which, I'll be purchasing.
It's about that time. I warned you some time ago that this project was going to be a problem. Well the time has come for its release. I don't know where you'll be on Sunday May 16th, but if you're in New York City, "1834 Bar & Burger" is where you need to be. "The GroundWork" Volume 2 is set to drop and it will change the direction of this Underground Movement, trust me. With hard-hitting lyrics and hand-picked beats, G-Swagg manages to deliver for the ladies and the streets. Versatility is key in this game and he is one of the few NYC Underground artists that come equipped. "1834" (NYC) will be the scene of a music changing event. Not only will the mixtape be revealed and distributed, but if I know those RSNY boys like I think I do, G-Swagg will touch the mic and bless the crowd with an epic performance. Keep up with his movements on Twitter @GSWAGGER. The mixtape link will be here soon but until then, check out G-Swagg "Do For Love".
