Whenever I think about Ruff Ryders, three people come to mind… DragOn is one of them. And when you hear that name, next question is… Where is he? Well, he and his tight lyrical skills dropped out of sight for awhile but he is back on the scene and making a lot of noise. Between the studio, UStream and appearances, he is all over the place. My inbox was blessed with his bangin' single "Money" that is being played all over the radio in New York and Boston. Along with that single came an invitation to sit down and have a chat. So look out, an interview will be coming soon. "The Crazies": The Mixtape featuring DragOn and many other artists is due out in the next couple of weeks and his album is scheduled to drop soon after. Myspace is still good for something because you can listen to his playlist and see that his flow is still tight! You can follow him on Twitter, @OfficialDragOn and keep on top of his movements. Here is that "Money" track. Get on it, he's back.

As promised, I am keeping you in the loop with RSNY/RockStar Society. Their mixtapes are in the works. First up, is Rockstar Remix. Remix is in the studio, hard at work on his project entitled "Life In The Frass Lane". Keep an eye out for a release date, should be some time in March. If you are in NYC, I am sure there will be a party so stay tuned. This mixtape promises to be something special. As soon as a link is available for download, I will be sharing. Until then, here is a taste of what's to come. Below check out "I Got A Girl" by Rockstar Remix featuring Yung Juggz and Drugzzzy B. This is actually a favorite of mine. I've seen this song performed live with a band and it sounds crazy. And once you catch hold of the lyrics, I am sure you will appreciate it even more… ;)
The year just started and artists are gearing up for what they call the 1st Quarter. Artists are making big moves this month and setting the tone for the rest of their year.
Last year I stumbled upon the likes of RSNY. I introduced them to you here on HipHopisCoolAgain.com . These 4 fellas have been making an impact on the underground/independent music movement in NYC. They are currently in the studio working on solo projects, but their past efforts are still making waves. As promised, they are keeping me in the loop. They make sure I have music previews, tour and show information and updates to their online magazine RSNYmag.com. As soon as I get it, I’m sharing.
As promised, they will be opening their tour on January 9th, 2010 at the Ace of Spades in NYC. After that, January 11th, 2010, they move on to Santos PartyHouse in NYC to perform at “Rise of the Illest” with @Wordspit. They go back to Santos PartyHouse for an encore performance at the legendary Soundcheck VII. Not only is this a Birthday Bash for @BreyKing, the Soundcheck King himself, but as I told you before, this is the place to check out new and upcoming artists. Also Performing at SoundCheck VII is ESSO, Astro, Eric Sosa, ROCKSTAR SOCIETY, The Illz, K55, Hotep, J.Sharelle, K. Lyric, G.S., Hosted by MS. MO BROWN SUGAR and on the turntables DJ GULLY. If you plan on attending Soundcheck VII, you need to RSVP to Soundcheck@Santospartyhouse.com for a discounted admission.
This is where I'll be for my music fix. If you will be in NYC for any of these performances, I urge you to check them out as well.
Interviews, shows, auditions and appearances. The fellas of RSNY are everywhere!! They are always on their grind and ready to put in work. On his way to the lab yesterday, G-Swagg stopped by Fat Boy Radio to talk to the people. Fat Boy Radio is housed at LaGuardia Community College in Queens, N.Y. College radio is a huge part of the Independent/Underground/New artist music movement.
Not only did G-Swagg speak on his movements with RSNY, but he also prepared the audience for the coming of his 2nd mixtape, “The Groundwork Vol II”. Not giving away too much info on the content, he promised that it will be a banger. If the tracks are anything like “Get It Up” with Red Café, S.O., and Newz or “Get Ya Sexy On” featuring Remix and Drugzzzy B, then nothing but hits are to be expected. And of course before exiting the building, he blessed Fat Boy Radio with a freestyle. Even with limited audio, he still managed to put it down. If you’re in NYC, you can catch G-Swagg and the rest of the RSNY boys at Uncle Mike’s on November 20th. If you missed the freestyle, take a listen…
Music is looking so questionable nowadays. My iPod and my blogging buddies keep me musically focused. Thank goodness for mixtapes, new and independent artists because otherwise, I would be a very angry Lady Blogga. The radio and its regular hourly brainwashing rotation makes my skin crawl. I try to stay in the habit of checking out what’s new and fresh.
A few Friday’s ago I headed out to Santos PartyHouse to do just that. The Soundcheck Part IV show was on deck. On the bill were Shinobi Ninja, Anton Glamb, Overfab, RockStar Society, DJ Jasmine Solano with Host Mo’ Brown Suga. If you aren’t familiar with these names, get acquainted because they are making moves quick. I have seen a few of them perform before but I was particularly interested in seeing RockStar Society. I am a big fan of promoting new and local artists. The RockStar Society come from the streets of Far Rock, which is where I’m from. It’s not an easy place to find and it’s not easy to get out of so it is important that I show support.
The RockStar Society consists of many members but the 4 fellas wrecking the stage were, @GSWAGGER , @REMIX_RSNY , @DRUGZZZB , and @YUNGJUGGZ . Between these 4 guys, the creativity and drive is crazy. GSwagger is the CEO of Fam Click Entertainment, Remix is the founder of RSNY and head designer for their clothing line (which can be viewed at TheRockStarSociety.com), Drugggzy B is a DJ and CEO of Bad Habit Entertaiment and YungJuggz is a Grammy Nominated Song Writer who has co-written songs for many artists including Shaggy, Elephant Man and Chris Brown.
With the help of a live band, these boys did the damn thing at Santos. Musically, I am very picky as I am true to Hip Hop and not this Hip Slop we are currently being force fed. The energy they brought to the stage was crazy. The crowd was rockin’ and their lyrics were tight. They performed a medley of songs from their CD’s “The Remixes”, “Fly or Die” and “Fly or Die 2”. All the CD’s can be downloaded on RSNYmag.com. Show songs included “I Think You Should Know”, “Wake-Up”, and a classic joint “She Has Another Lover”. Their sound is like none other. It is a combination of hip-hop soul, rap and reggae rolled into one. And if you listen to their CD’s you can see that each artist has their own individual sound. It’s rare that new artists can master and kill a performance with a live band. But these gentlemen did it and with ease.
They are currently working on various different projects. G-Swagg is currently in the studio on a solo mission with his mixtape “The GroundWork II”. And the rest of the crew will follow suit. While they are grindin’ their solo endeavors, they will also be doing shows, making appearances and creating the next leg of their clothing line.
I am @thaLadyBlogga and I will be stopping by here from time to time to spread the good word. You can catch me on the Twitter check-in or at my regular home with The Mad Bloggers.
If you missed their Santos performance here’s a clip…
I first heard of Sav Killz back in October when I was at the Producer's Swap Meet Beat Battle @ Don Hills on Greenwich Street. I was there with milkfish and Sav was willing to part with copies of Success Is Inevitable for a small fee. I scooped up a copy and listened to it when I got back to Cali. It has some cool joints on it and here's the video for one of those tracks, Restless Nights. [NahRight]
