I had the pleasure of seeing Pharoahe perform live last week at the Duck Down Records 15th Anniversary party at BB King in NYC. If you think this record sounds good on your computer speakers, you should hear it on loudspeakers. His new album, W.A.R., drops on Sept. 14th along with Black Milk's Album Of The Year. Both of which, I'll be purchasing.

Last week Detroit producer, Apollo Brown, delivered us his latest album, The Reset. The project features a variety of exceptional MC's atop Apollo's soulful production, including Rapper Big Pooh and Black Milk, on the track "Hungry". With a hard-hitting beat and rhymes from the two MC's to match, the track is filled with energy. "Hungry" leads off with a verse from Big Pooh, who recounts his hard work and also takes some time to celebrate his successes. The second verse comes from Black Milk, as he lays a series of braggadocio rhymes over Apollo's heavy drums and mix of vocal, horn, and organ chops. Following each verse is the repeating mantra of the song, rapped by Black Milk, "I can't sleep, I'm on the grind, I'm hungry"; a simple hook that’s pounded into the heads of listeners as a firm proclamation of ambition.
Apollo Brown's The Reset is now available via Mello Music Group.
