To celebrate the release of his new album, The Reset, which drops today, Apollo Brown is excited to give fans another treat from the album, this time the "Streets Won't Let Me Chill Remix." For the track, Apollo Brown remixed Diamond District's "Streets Won't Let Me Chill," originally produced by Oddisee and featured on the group's debut In The Ruff, and provides a darker perspective on the song when compared to the original's brass-lined soul beat. The James Brown drum break, which Apollo uses along with an eerie guitar riff, creatively compliments vocals from Oddisee, yU, and X.O. "I wanted the remix to have the same gritty feel to it. The original is drum heavy to me so I wanted to keep that going with a classic drum break. You can't go wrong with 'funky drummer'", says Apollo. "I picked something that I know I could have done a lot of justice to. The lyrics on that song are ill as hell."
Apollo Brown's The Reset is now available via Mello Music Group.
In further celebration of today's release, Apollo Brown is inviting all of his fans out tonight for a special meet-and-greet in-store at the legendary Fat Beats New York. Joining Apollo Brown at the in-store will be Hasaan Mackey. Come out, grab a CD, get it signed, and chop it up with Apollo and Hasaan tonight from 7pm - 9pm EST.
You can also check out the single "Real Detroit" on iTunes.

After the success of his solo album, Before Taxes, yU of Diamond District is proud to release two instrumentals from the album for consumption, "Almost Time" and "Lunchin'." Following the trend of many artists, yU wanted to give aspiring rappers the chance to spit rhymes over a couple of mastered tracks. "Almost Time" serves as a standard for rappers with a straight drumbeat, swelling horns, repeating guitar vamp, and spoken ad-libs inserted to push the song forward. "Lunchin'" requires a more interpretive verse with its spoken introduction, popping drums, electronic sounds, and synthesizer induced vamp. The Before Taxes album is available in vinyl through Fat Beats, with a bonus track from fellow Diamond District member, Oddisee, and a digital copy of Before Taxes Instrumentals is available for purchase on iTunes.
Building anticipation for his debut album, The Reset, out May 25, recently signed Mello Music Group producer Apollo Brown re-releases a mixtape done in 2007 named Skilled Trade. Raw in its sound, Skilled Trade is a collection showcasing Apollo Brown's honed craft through the 30 tracks of instrumentals included in the album. "Really, the inspiration behind putting this project out was to get a little bit of my sound out of the bedroom and into the streets," says Apollo.
A true display of talent, not only did Apollo produce and arrange it himself but also created the physical album through his own means, then distributing them the same exact way. But it isn't just talent that makes Apollo a good producer but also the hard work he is willing to devote to his craft. "The dirty boots on the cover signify work. That's all I do," Apollo says, "I'm always working hard to better my craft and make sure my music sounds as good as it can." On The Reset, Apollo's hard work and talent will mix with the likes of accomplished emcees such as Rapper Big Pooh, Stik Figa and fellow label mates, Diamond District to bring the debut album to most excited fans.
